Synopsis

Rural Finland in winter. An icy river emanating coldness and danger. A human-shaped figure lying still in the snow. A love story that pulls you under the surface. L/OVER is a crossbreed of drama and psychological thriller. It explores how and why coercive control can be the greatest danger in a relationship. What first seems like a love story of the century turns into something horrific. The twisted and distorted love story brings up a question – who will get out of this alive?

Note from the artistic direction

Inspired by a real-life story experienced by one of its creators, L/OVER is not just a concept: it is  a harrowing and necessary testimony highlighting issues that are more relevant than ever in today’s media landscape. The series marks Finland’s return to the selection and offers us a deep dive into the chillingly realistic world of a seemingly perfect relationship. Starring Krista Kosonen, who won the Best Performance Award at CANNESERIES Season 4 with Mister 8, and the excellent Jani Volanen, the series begins with a beautiful love story between a successful writer and his editor. Thanks to subtle and powerful writing, the curtain slowly rises, revealing the trap unfolding before our eyes, as a helpless audience.
