Synopsis

Belgrade, 2003. When Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić is assassinated, the country plunges into chaos, and the government declares a state of emergency. A turning point in recent Serbian history told through the perspective of a female journalist, a police inspector and a young criminal.

Note from the artistic direction

After Awake in 2020, Serbia is back in competition at CANNESERIES. Operation Sabre revisits the dark hours of the country after the fall of Milošević with a meticulous reconstruction of the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic in 2003. Tense and very effective, the directing reflects the chaos of a country stuck between corruption and justice inefficiency. A committed and engaging portrait of a historical moment, completely unknown from the rest of Europe, and of its unfortunately still very present consequences on Serbian society.
