SKAM

In partnership with the CANNESERIES Festival, KONBINI is proud to create an award that reflects its progressive and positive values. For the second year in a row, a talent or a series that has stood out for its artistic quality and the societal, innovative or revolutionary dimension of its work is honored during the Festival.

Skam, which means “shame” in Norwegian, its country of origin, quickly established itself as a landmark series by tackling the many issues that shape the lives of today’s high school students, from the most everyday to the most crucial. Fatphobia, mental health issues, denial of pregnancy, homophobia, gender identity, sexual assault, addiction, disability, bullying… the series addresses all of these topics head-on, always with great accuracy and sensitivity. With nine seasons already produced, it has painted a portrait of youth unlike any other French series before it, never talking down to its audience and constantly reinventing itself. These values are also those of Konbini, which today wishes to award Skam France the Engagement Award.

“It is an honor to present the Konbini Engagement Award to the team behind SKAM France. This award highlights and celebrates the dynamism of original French creation. It is a remarkable series in which subjects that matter to young people—their psychology and their intimacy—are explored with great honesty and kindness,” explain David Creuzot and Lucie Beudet, founders and president of Konbini.

“CANNESERIES is delighted to see SKAM France recognized in this way. The series fundamentally embodies the values championed by the Festival: diversity and inclusivity. An authentic, non-caricatured series that allows viewers to identify with its characters. Awarding SKAM France means celebrating youth, freedom of expression and multicultural voices,” says Albin Lewi, Artistic Director of CANNESERIES.
