Around The World in 80 Days with David Tennant in World Premiere

The highly anticipated new adaptation of Jules Verne's classic, Around the World in 80 Days, will be unveiled in the Out of Competition section in a world premiere during the Festival's Season 04, which will take place from October 8 to 13, 2021 in Cannes at the Palais des Festival et des Congrès in parallel with the 37th edition of MIPCOM, the World’s Largest Entertainment Content Market (October 11 th -14 th).

British actor David Tennant (Des, Good Omens), who has won several awards in theater and television, will take on the role of literature's greatest explorer, Phileas Fogg. He will be joined on his incredible journey by French actor Ibrahim Koma (OSS 117, Wùlu) as Jean Passepartout, Fogg's irrepressible valet, and German actress Leonie Benesch (The Crown, Babylon Berlin) as Abigail "Fix" Fortescue, a determined and headstrong journalist.

Filmed in part in Romania and South Africa, this eight-part international adaptation was written by a team of acclaimed screenwriters led by Ashley Pharoah (Life on Mars, The Living and the Dead) and Caleb Ranson (Child of Mine, Heartless), and directed by Steve Barron (The Durrells, Treasure Island), Charles Beeson (The Mentalist, Supernatural) and Brian Kelly (Torchwood, Outlander).

Around the World in 80 Days is co-produced by Slim Film + Télévision (Simon Crawford Collins) and Federation (Lionel Uzan, Pascal Breton) for the European Alliance formed by France Télévisions, ZDF and RAI, with additional co-production partners, Peu Communications in South Africa, Masterpiece PBS in the USA, Seven West Media in Australia, Be-FILMS and RTBF in Belgium and Daro Films. The series has been acquired by BBC in the UK and RTS in Switzerland. Federation will handle distribution rights to the series.
